Courses topics:
Language practice for primary and secondary teachers:
Many practising teachers, especially those who always teach at the same level, often feel the need to go back to the classroom and revise and improve their own English. Language changes and this course gives teachers an opportunity to practise contemporary English in a multilingual situation. Materials are selected which give teachers maximum talking time and every chance to improve both their accuracy and fluency. In addition, close attention is given to the expansion of teachers' active vocabulary, including idiom and collocation.
Teaching Grammar :
Most teachers are concerned with the need to incorporate grammar, whether explicitly or implicitly, into their lesson planning. This course presents techniques which teach and practise various structures in
interactive activities that are both effective and fun to use. Teachers sample a range of techniques designed to remedy particular problems through pictures, games and mini-dialogues.
Integrated Skills:
The greatest incentive for learners of English is that the language will enable them to understand the world around them better. They will want to leave the classroom able to listen to English language songs, to watch English language TV or to read English language newspapers. We offer practical advice and materials designed to bring the world outside into the classroom so that you can help your students to develop their listening and reading skills.
Content & Language Integrated Learning (CLIL)
This course looks at techniques which can be used to teach different academic subjects in English, a practice which is gaining in popularity in a number of European countries. The course also proviides opportunites for general language practice and language for giving instructions and general classroom management.
These one-week courses are designed for teachers and student teachers of English who wish to become more effective in the classroom.
The courses are not lecture based. Teachers are put in the position of experiencing techniques for themselves. They then have the opportunity to evaluate the suitability of them for their own teaching situation.
It is possible to stay for 1,2 or 3 weeks to follow different course topics. They are available to both individuals and groups.
KSE is also happy to assist with applications for course sponsorship to government bodies, local authorities and the European Union.
Activities: (programmes vary each week)
The social activity programme is an important part of all our teacher training courses. Four evening activities are organised each week, giving course participants the chance to mix informally with each other and with KSE teachers.
